HAVERSACKS

Haversacks can be one of several styles. Plain canvas and tarred haversacks are the most common style. Regardless of which style you use, haversacks should be made correctly. They should be worn high, as to give the wearer freedom of movement. Above, are four different examples. From left to right, top to bottom; a civilian haversack, a canvas haversack, a linen haversack, and a tarred officer's haversack. Note the knots tied on the straps of the canvas and linen bags. This is to shorten the strap so as to adjust the length on the wearer--sewing the strap to a shorter length can also make this adjustment. There are also several other types of acceptable haversacks available.
